The project took Studio Voltaire's garden as its starting point: The Garden, a 2021 commission by artist Anthea Hamilton, with its rich tapestry of plants, fruits, and flowers. The pack brings together vibrant illustrations, interactive activities, and informative fun facts, all shaped around an age-appropriate, accessible design for children aged 7 to 11, though open to anyone.
Three activities were designed and illustrated by Sahra Hersi for the pack. The first invites children to draw a daisy, and the second a ladybird, both introducing basic drawing skills in an approachable way. The third and largest, Design Your Own Garden, opens up space for children to think about composition and how to arrange elements within a space, ideas that sit at the heart of design itself. Blank sheets were included within the pack so children could draw directly into it and leave a trace of themselves. The pack was conceived not just as something to read or follow, but something to become part of.
The final publication blends artistic exploration with environmental education, offering creative spaces for personal sketches and garden designs and inviting young people to express their own ideas about community gardening.
