Marshgate Lane Public Art Commission
This public art commission, developed in collaboration with UP Projects, the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), and Community Collaborators, focuses on the Marshgate Lane area, adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London. The project responds to community feedback regarding safety in this public thoroughfare, particularly concerns raised by women and girls.Aligned with LLDC’s Handbook: Creating Places that Work for Women and Girls, the commission adopts a co-creative approach to ensure the final artwork reflects the voices and experiences of the local community.
Working with a group of eight Community Collaborators, local women selected through an open call process with direct connections to the Marshgate Lane area, the project explores notions of safety and inclusivity. Through nine curated workshops, the group investigates how art and wayfinding interventions can make the space more welcoming and accessible.
The collaborative process involves shaping decisions on the artwork’s location, materials, and design. The final piece is scheduled to launch in summer 2025, offering a meaningful contribution to the Marshgate Lane area.
